Tinubu Commissions Rehabilitated Karu Roads, Says Administration Delivering on Promise to Improve Living Standards

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday said his administration is fulfilling its promise to improve the living standards of Nigerians through sustained investment in critical infrastructure across the country.

The President made the declaration during the inauguration of the rehabilitated and expanded road network from the Karu Interchange to the Customs Clinic Junction and adjoining roads in the Karu satellite town of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Represented at the event by Vice President Kashim Shettima, Tinubu described the project as a practical demonstration of the Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at easing urban congestion, improving transportation, and stimulating economic activities.

He noted that the road project, commissioned barely a week after the inauguration of the Karu satellite town water supply network, reflects the administration’s commitment to extending development to communities where Nigerians live, work and commute.

“When we assumed office in 2023, we recognised that true development must reach where the people actually live, work and commute. This project stands as a clear testament to our promise to resolve urban congestion and uplift the living standards of our people,” the President said.

According to him, the Karu corridor, which serves as a major gateway linking the FCT with neighbouring states, had for years been plagued by severe traffic congestion that negatively affected productivity and the quality of life of residents.

He said the expanded road network would significantly reduce travel time, eliminate traffic gridlock and create a more conducive environment for businesses to thrive.

Tinubu also highlighted the installation of modern solar-powered streetlights along the corridor, noting that the initiative would improve road safety, enhance visibility for motorists and reduce crime at night.

The President attributed the rapid transformation of infrastructure across the FCT to the leadership of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, commending him for the effective implementation of the administration’s urban renewal agenda.

He said the government’s focus on developing satellite towns alongside the city centre reflects its commitment to ensuring that the benefits of governance reach all residents, regardless of their socio-economic status.

Tinubu also praised Abdul-Val Nigeria Limited, the contractor handling the project, for delivering quality work within schedule, saying the company had demonstrated that indigenous firms are capable of meeting international standards in infrastructure delivery.

The President urged traditional rulers, youth leaders, market associations and residents of Karu to protect the newly completed infrastructure by preventing vandalism, indiscriminate refuse disposal and activities capable of damaging drainage systems.

Earlier, the FCT Minister, Wike, said the level of support provided by President Tinubu to the FCT Administration was unprecedented, describing it as a clear demonstration of the President’s commitment to the welfare of residents.

He assured residents that the ongoing infrastructure renewal across the territory would be sustained and commended the contractor for its professionalism and dedication to the successful execution of the project.

Also speaking, the Head of Service of the FCT, Mrs. Nancy, expressed appreciation to the President for his unwavering commitment to infrastructure development and national progress.

Presenting an overview of the project, the Coordinator of the Satellite Towns Development Department, Hon. Zulkiflu Abdulkadir, said the road rehabilitation forms part of broader efforts to improve infrastructure in satellite towns and area councils within the FCT.

He explained that, in addition to road reconstruction, the project included the installation of solar-powered streetlights, construction of drainage channels and pedestrian walkways, all of which are expected to boost economic and social activities in Karu, the most populated satellite town in the Federal Capital Territory.

The commissioning ceremony was attended by lawmakers, senior government officials, traditional rulers and other stakeholders from across the FCT.
