Ibom Air is preparing to take delivery of another new Airbus A220 300 as Akwa Ibom State continues to expand the fleet of its government owned airline.
Governor Umo Eno inspected the aircraft at Airbus facilities in Mirabel, Quebec, Canada ahead of delivery.
The aircraft is the third new A220 300 in the airline’s current delivery programme.
It is expected to enter service before the 2026 Christmas and end of year travel period.
Eno said the acquisition reflected the state’s commitment to improving Ibom Air’s operational capacity and long term competitiveness.
He said fleet expansion would support passenger comfort, efficiency and wider route development.
The governor also linked the investment to tourism, trade and economic development in Akwa Ibom.
Ibom Air began operations in 2019 and expanded into scheduled international services in June 2026.
The additional aircraft is expected to increase capacity on domestic and regional routes and strengthen Uyo’s position as an aviation gateway.
State officials said the A220 fleet programme was built around new generation aircraft known for fuel efficiency and passenger comfort.
Airbus Canada officials said the aircraft was well suited to domestic and regional operations.
The first two A220s in the airline’s fleet are undergoing comprehensive checks and are expected to return to service by the end of September 2026.
Ibom Air management said the pre delivery inspection represented another important milestone in the carrier’s expansion programme.
