The Transmission Company of Nigeria has restored electricity to Kano, Katsina and Jigawa states after completing scheduled maintenance at its 330kV Kumbotso Transmission Substation.
In a statement, General Manager for Public Affairs Ndidi Mbah said the substation and affected lines were successfully energized, with normal supply fully restored at about 4:30 p.m. The maintenance, announced earlier by the Nigerian Independent System Operator, required a temporary shutdown between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. for critical works.
The company said the maintenance formed part of its continuous investment in reinforcing the grid and improving the stability of supply nationwide.
Following the restoration, the Kano, Jos and Yola electricity distribution companies resumed power off-take to their franchise areas. The restored supply covers Kano, Katsina and Jigawa, as well as Azare in Bauchi, Nguru in Yobe and Gazaoua in the Republic of Niger, which also draws power through Nigeria’s network.
TCN thanked customers for their patience, noting the inconvenience was necessary to improve reliability, while the system operator said the upgrade would enhance transmission capacity and boost the resilience of the power system.
