The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has announced disciplinary action against 79 personnel over professional misconduct and arrested suspects linked to illegal arms trafficking and infrastructure vandalism.
Commandant General Ahmed Audi said the measures reflected the corps’ commitment to discipline, accountability and protection of national assets.
Disciplinary proceedings concluded under public service rules affected officers accused of job racketeering, financial misconduct, theft, absence without leave and actions considered harmful to national security.
Sanctions included dismissal, compulsory retirement and recommendations for criminal prosecution.
Two officers, Hosea Habila and Jibrin Labaran, were dismissed and recommended for prosecution over an unauthorized armed engagement with suspected illegal miners at Rafin Gabas in Nasarawa State.
The incident led to the death of the Commander of the NSCDC Mining Marshals in the area, Levi Agada.
Four officers are facing proceedings over allegations involving illegal arms dealing and the mistreatment of a teenage domestic worker.
The Commandant General’s Special Intelligence Squad also arrested several suspects across Ebonyi, Enugu, Kogi, Niger and the Federal Capital Territory over alleged firearms and ammunition trafficking.
Some serving NSCDC officers were among those arrested.
In a separate operation, personnel intercepted six suspects accused of transporting a trailer load of vandalised railway sleepers at Sabon Wuse.
The corps said investigations and disciplinary proceedings would continue in accordance with the law.
