The Federal Government has strongly condemned the killing of farmers in Marte Local Government Area of Borno State, describing the attack as disturbing and unacceptable.
In a statement issued by the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, the government expressed concern over the assault on farming communities, noting that such acts threaten ongoing efforts to ensure food security and sustain agricultural productivity across the country.
Kyari described the attack as an unfortunate setback to initiatives aimed at keeping rural farming communities safe and productive, stressing that farmers must be protected to guarantee the nation’s food supply.
The minister called on security agencies to intensify operations in the affected areas, bring the perpetrators to justice, and strengthen efforts to locate those still unaccounted for following the attack.
He emphasized that safeguarding farmers and agricultural communities remains critical to Nigeria’s food security agenda and overall economic stability.
According to reports, 15 farmers were killed by suspected terrorists while working on their farms in Marte Local Government Area, while three others remain missing.
The Federal Government reiterated its commitment to supporting measures that enhance security in farming communities and ensure that farmers can carry out their activities without fear of violence or intimidation.
