Agency says operations included an airport interception, port seizures and the destruction of a cannabis farm in Ondo.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has announced a series of operations targeting suspected drug trafficking networks, including the seizure of 8,725 kilograms of powdered tramadol at Apapa Port in Lagos, with an estimated street value exceeding ₦6.98 billion.
According to agency spokesperson Femi Babafemi, the shipment arrived from India and was declared as maize starch. It was discovered during a joint examination on October 2, with laboratory testing subsequently identifying the substance as tramadol hydrochloride. The agency said 349 bags were separated and weighed on October 14.
At Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, officers intercepted a Saudi Arabia-bound passenger, Fatimah Ahmad, allegedly carrying 511.75 grammes of cannabis concealed in a container of palm oil. The NDLEA said another person identified during questioning was arrested, but the allegations remain subject to legal process.
The agency also reported finding 55 kilograms of cannabis in a vehicle at Tincan Island Port, while raids in Lagos resulted in seizures of controlled medicines and suspected illicit drugs. Additional arrests and seizures were reported in Bauchi, Kano, Kaduna and the Federal Capital Territory.
In Edo State, the NDLEA said an 85-year-old woman was among suspects arrested during operations in Owan East. In Ondo, operatives reportedly destroyed approximately 7,500 kilograms of cannabis at a cultivation site and recovered further quantities of the substance.
NDLEA Chairman Buba Marwa praised the officers involved and urged continued intelligence-led enforcement alongside public education under the War Against Drug Abuse campaign.
The figures and circumstances are those reported by the agency. Arrests do not establish guilt, and the supplied account does not include court outcomes for the individuals named.
