Tinubu Reinstates Finance Permanent Secretary After Suspension Linked to Alleged Unauthorized Office

President Bola Tinubu has approved the reinstatement of M. S. Danjuma, Permanent Secretary for Finance (Special Duties) at the Federal Ministry of Finance, following his suspension during an investigation into an allegedly unauthorized government office.

The approval was conveyed in an October 22, 2026, letter from Head of the Civil Service of the Federation Olumuyiwa Enitan Abel. According to a communication from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the reinstatement took effect on October 21.

Danjuma was among three permanent secretaries suspended on August 21 after concerns were raised about an entity called the National Brands Development and Made-in-Nigeria Special Project Office, which investigators alleged had operated within the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation without proper presidential authorization.

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission had reported that the office was allegedly associated with George Buchi Nwabueze and had obtained government office space despite questions about its legal status. The president subsequently ordered the suspension of Danjuma, Nadungu Gagare and Richard P. Pheelangwah and directed action concerning Nwabueze.

The reinstatement directive requires Danjuma to resume his responsibilities in accordance with civil service rules and ethical standards. The information provided does not establish the final outcome of investigations involving other individuals or entities, and reinstatement should not be taken as a determination of their cases.
