Tinubu Boasts to Global Auditing Giant: Nigeria’s Economy Is Roaring Back

President Bola Tinubu told a visiting Deloitte Africa delegation that Nigeria’s economy has steadily stabilised over three years of financial and fiscal reform, receiving Chief Executive Ruwayda Redfearn and her team at the State House with a review of the administration’s economic record and an invitation to deepen the firm’s investment in the country.

We are following the example of Deloitte’s greatness to change things from the foundation, building the necessary future for our people, Tinubu said, acknowledging that the reforms have been difficult, comparing them not to a McDonald’s customer relationship but to a harvester of good things if implemented well. He thanked Deloitte for paying close attention to Nigeria’s fiscal, revenue and tax reforms, arguing that despite the bitter medicine some measures have required, the country is making serious foundational economic progress, and that continued revenue reform will keep stimulating growth. Attended by Minister of Finance Taiwo Oyedele and Nigerian Revenue Service Chairman Zacch Adedeji, the meeting saw Tinubu argue the reforms have stimulated the economy, strengthened fiscal and revenue institutions, repositioned financial institutions and prepared Nigeria to be more globally competitive, and he urged Deloitte Africa to deepen its impact by training and recruiting from the country’s young population. The family of Deloitte, you just reminded me of my cradle years in accountancy and where I cut my childhood accounting teeth in Chicago, he said, adding that Deloitte’s training programme is a strength he expects the firm to keep building on.

Redfearn said Deloitte, a global organisation focused primarily on digital and business transformation, employs more than 500,000 people worldwide, over 6,000 of them in Africa, with revenue of $74 billion in 2025, and told Tinubu the firm’s local and global teams stand ready to support his administration. We are before you to say that we want to serve, she said. Deloitte West Africa Chief Executive Yomi Olugbenro assured the president of the firm’s support for the reforms, saying its guiding philosophy is making an impact that matters, and that while the ground has been solidly laid in Nigeria, the bigger task now is extracting more value from those reforms and delivering the dividends of democracy to ordinary Nigerians. With Deloitte’s global capabilities and experience supporting reform efforts in other countries, he said, Nigeria stands to benefit similarly, and the firm welcomes the opportunity to support wherever the government sees fit.
