The Federal Government has inaugurated the Governing Board of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), charging its members to prioritise projects that improve the livelihoods of Nigerians through increased access to electricity.
The inauguration ceremony was held in Abuja and attended by the Chairman of the Board, Ayodele Fayose, the management of the REA, and officials of the Federal Ministry of Power.
Speaking at the event, the Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, emphasised the importance of rural electrification initiatives, including mini-grids and solar energy systems, describing them as critical tools for promoting economic inclusion and sustainable development in underserved communities.
Tegbe also clarified the responsibilities of the newly inaugurated board, stating that it would provide strategic oversight and policy direction, while the agency’s management would remain responsible for its day-to-day operations.
He urged board members to focus on delivering impactful programmes that expand electricity access and improve the quality of life for rural communities across the country.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the REA Governing Board, Ayodele Fayose, pledged the board’s commitment to supporting efforts to address Nigeria’s electricity challenges.
Fayose said the board would work closely with the agency’s management and the Ministry of Power to advance the Federal Government’s rural electrification objectives in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
