AS Roma produced a dominant display on Monday night, sweeping aside ACF Fiorentina 4–0 to move within a point of the final Champions League qualification spot in Serie A.
The emphatic win in Rome, Italy kept Roma firmly in contention for a top-four finish, with three matches remaining in a tightly contested battle for European qualification.
Defender Gianluca Mancini opened the scoring after just 13 minutes, finishing from close range following a header from youngster Niccolò Pisilli.
Roma doubled their lead four minutes later when Brazilian winger Wesley struck a first-time effort to put the hosts firmly in control.
The game was effectively decided before halftime as Spanish defender Mario Hermoso added a third goal, set up by midfielder Manu Koné, giving Roma a commanding 3–0 advantage at the break.
Pisilli capped off a dominant performance just before the hour mark, heading in the fourth goal to seal a comprehensive victory and extend pressure on rivals in the race for Champions League qualification.
Roma, coached by Gian Piero Gasperini, were without suspended midfielder Neil El Aynaoui, but their depth proved sufficient as they controlled proceedings from start to finish.
The result leaves Roma fifth on the table, with fixtures against Parma Calcio and other rivals still to come in a tense season finale. They remain in close pursuit of Juventus, who occupy the final Champions League spot.
Elsewhere in Serie A, the title race has already been settled following Inter Milan’s recent triumph, while the fight for European places remains wide open among clubs including Napoli and AC Milan.
In another fixture on Monday, SS Lazio edged US Cremonese 2–1, with a stoppage-time winner keeping their European ambitions alive as the season approaches its conclusion.
