Peter Obi Reaffirms One-Term Promise Amid Exchange With Tinubu Camp

Peter Obi has reiterated his commitment to serving a single term if elected president in 2027, while criticising the economic policies of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In a preview of a television interview circulating online, Obi linked his one-term pledge to Nigeria’s zoning arrangement and argued that leadership rotation remains important for national unity and political stability.

The former Anambra State governor also criticised the Tinubu administration over rising living costs, increased borrowing, and alleged interference in the electoral process.

Reacting to Obi’s comments, presidential adviser Bayo Onanuga dismissed the one-term promise as lacking credibility.

Onanuga questioned Obi’s political consistency, referencing his movement across political parties, including the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and the Labour Party.

However, the response from the presidential aide attracted widespread reactions on social media after users claimed to have noticed apparent unedited artificial intelligence-generated text in the statement, including phrases such as, “Certainly! Here’s a more polished version.”

The development sparked online criticism and mockery, with many users describing the incident as an embarrassing communication error amid growing political debates ahead of the 2027 general election.

The exchange reflects increasing political tension and early positioning among key figures expected to play major roles in Nigeria’s next presidential contest.
