Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has visited the family of former Governor Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan following his reported death on October 19 at the age of 71, joining political leaders and community groups in paying tribute to his public service.
Accompanied by his wife, Tobore, and senior officials, Oborevwori met Uduaghan’s widow, Roli, and other family members. He also joined dignitaries who received the former governor’s remains at Osubi Airport.
Oborevwori described Uduaghan as a mentor and former boss who appointed him Special Adviser in 2007 and later supported his political career. He said the large number of mourners reflected the former governor’s influence across the state.
Former Deputy Governor Kingsley Otuaro praised Uduaghan’s commitment to peace and regional development. Former Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege recalled their work during the James Ibori administration and described Uduaghan as calm, humane and capable of maintaining relationships across political divisions.
Other tributes came from Chief Mulade Sheriff and the Delta Unity Group, which portrayed the former governor as a bridge between the state’s ethnic communities. The group said his legacy extended beyond political office to efforts at unity and reconciliation.
Uduaghan’s death has prompted condolences from across Delta’s political spectrum, with many mourners highlighting his role in governance and the relationships he maintained with colleagues and communities.
