New Army Battalion and Artillery Regiment Established in Kano, Barau Says

Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau has welcomed the establishment of two Nigerian Army formations in Kano State, saying the deployments could improve the military’s response to banditry and other security threats in the North-West.

The formations were identified as the 24 Battalion in Tudun Wada and the 311 Artillery Regiment in Dambatta. In a statement issued by his media adviser, Ismail Mudashir, Barau praised President Bola Tinubu, the Army leadership and Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for supporting the security initiative.

He called on traditional rulers, community leaders and residents to cooperate with the troops and share credible information about criminal activities. He also pledged continued legislative support for military readiness and operational funding.

The statement did not provide troop strengths, equipment inventories or a timetable for assessing the impact of the deployments. Security gains will depend on sustained operations, civilian protection and coordination with local communities.
