Makinde Presents RESET Agenda, Promises Security and Economic Reforms at South-South Town Hall

Oyo State Governor and Allied Peoples Movement presidential candidate Seyi Makinde has pledged to tackle insecurity, improve economic opportunities and review the burden of taxation as part of his proposed RESET agenda for Nigeria.

Speaking at a South-South town hall meeting in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Makinde said the region’s natural wealth had not translated into adequate prosperity for many residents. He acknowledged continuing concerns over pollution and militancy in the Niger Delta and promised a more comprehensive security response.

Makinde identified education, skills development, entrepreneurship and governance reforms as central elements of his programme. He argued that government should encourage businesses to expand and create jobs rather than depend excessively on taxes and federal allocations.

The candidate criticized the Tinubu administration’s economic policies and called for greater transparency around petroleum pricing, the compressed natural gas initiative and the naira-for-crude arrangement. He repeated his allegation that states were owed substantial Nigeria LNG dividend payments, a claim disputed by the Presidency in the supplied earlier report.

Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed urged voters to assess candidates on experience and competence. Makinde’s running mate, Musa Daura, and APM National Chairman Mamman Dantelle also argued for a change in governance priorities.

The pledges and criticisms were made in a campaign setting. Their effectiveness and financial feasibility remain matters for public scrutiny and debate.
