Military Reports 48 Insurgents Killed in Borno and Yobe Attacks

The Nigerian military says troops of Operation Hadin Kai killed 48 insurgent fighters while repelling attacks on military positions in Borno and Yobe states between October 29 and 30, 2026.

According to a statement attributed to Captain Mohammed Goni, acting media information officer of the North-East joint task force, troops responded to an attempted assault in Bitta, Gwoza Local Government Area, and a separate attack on the North-East Theatre Training School at Buni Yadi in Gujba Local Government Area.

The military said the engagement at Buni Yadi lasted about five hours and involved coordination between ground troops, air support and surveillance assets. It reported recovering 42 AK-47 rifles, five PKT machine guns, four general purpose machine guns, a mortar, magazines, ammunition and other equipment.

The statement acknowledged the death of one soldier and injuries to two others, who were said to be receiving treatment. The reported insurgent casualty figure and recoveries are military claims that have not been independently verified in the supplied material.

The incidents underscore the continuing security challenge in the North-East despite sustained counterinsurgency operations.
