Lagos Ready for 2026 CAF Awards, Sanwo-Olu Assures Organisers

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has reaffirmed the state’s commitment to successfully hosting the 2026 Confederation of African Football (CAF) Awards scheduled for December 7.

Sanwo-Olu gave the assurance while receiving a CAF delegation led by the organisation’s Head of Safety and Security, Dr Christian Emeruwa, at Lagos House, Marina.

The governor pledged support in critical areas including security, logistics, branding and access management as preparations intensify for one of Africa’s biggest football events.

In a statement after the meeting, Sanwo-Olu said Lagos was prepared to provide a memorable experience for football administrators, players, officials and visitors expected from across the continent and beyond.

He noted that the event would also offer an opportunity to showcase the state’s cultural heritage, hospitality and capacity to host major international gatherings.

The visit formed part of a broader inspection programme by a 15-member CAF delegation assessing facilities for both the 2026 CAF Awards in Lagos and the 48th CAF Ordinary General Assembly in Abuja.

Facilities scheduled for inspection include the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts, Eko Hotel & Suites and the Murtala Muhammed International Airport.

The CAF Awards will hold at the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts in Iganmu, Lagos, while the CAF Ordinary General Assembly is scheduled for November 21 in Abuja.

Emeruwa also sought the cooperation of the Lagos State Signage and Advertisement Agency (LASAA) to support publicity and branding efforts throughout the state.

The 2026 ceremony will mark the return of the CAF Awards to Lagos for the first time since January 2015.
