First Lady Oluremi Tinubu Visits Oba of Benin, Commissions 50 CNG Buses in Edo

First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has said the reforms and policies implemented by President Bola Tinubu over the past three years are laying the foundation for a stronger and more prosperous Nigeria.

The First Lady made the statement during a working visit to Edo State, where she paid a courtesy visit to the Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II.

Speaking at the royal palace, she highlighted interventions under the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) in agriculture, education, healthcare, economic empowerment and social investment.

She said the administration remained committed to creating a better future for Nigerians through people-focused programmes and reforms.

Oluremi Tinubu also appealed to traditional rulers to support awareness campaigns on HIV/AIDS, hepatitis, syphilis, birth registration and Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination.

In his remarks, Oba Ewuare II commended the First Lady for her advocacy and programmes aimed at improving the welfare of women and children across the country.

As part of the visit, the First Lady was presented with the traditional Benin royal beads, known as the Ikele.

She later commissioned 50 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses procured by the Edo State Government to ease transportation challenges and witnessed the launch of a ₦1 billion empowerment programme targeting 5,000 women.

Describing the buses as symbols of opportunity and economic inclusion, Oluremi Tinubu said affordable transportation would improve access to education, employment and markets.

She also welcomed the state government’s empowerment initiative, under which beneficiaries are expected to receive ₦200,000 each to support small businesses and livelihoods.

The First Lady noted that the initiative would strengthen economic self-reliance among women, youths and vulnerable persons in the state.
