Former Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has called for greater consistency within Nigeria’s national football team following its disappointing 3-0 defeat to Guinea-Bissau in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Ekong made the remarks during an interview with beIN Sports, where he stressed the need for improvements across all levels of the national team structure.
“We are at a point where we need to see some consistency and think from the top down. I think the talent is there in abundance,” he said.
The former defender’s comments come amid growing concerns over the Super Eagles’ performances after the heavy defeat in Bissau, a result that has intensified scrutiny of the team’s form under head coach Eric Chelle.
Despite the setback, Ekong maintained that Nigeria possesses enough talent to compete successfully at the highest level and urged stakeholders to focus on building stability and continuity within the team.
The Super Eagles will now seek to revive their qualifying campaign in their remaining fixtures as they pursue qualification for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
