Former Bayelsa State Governor Seriake Dickson has urged young Nigerians to take a more active role in politics, arguing that greater participation is essential to addressing insecurity, unemployment, poverty and weaknesses in public institutions.
Speaking in Abuja while receiving members of the Dickson Movement for Democracy, he presented the Nigerian Democratic Congress as a political platform focused on security, education, healthcare, productive enterprise and national cohesion.
The group, led by national coordinator Ogbidi Emmanuel, invited Dickson to serve as its grand patron. Its representatives said the movement aimed to encourage accountable leadership and expand youth involvement in electoral politics.
Dickson called for stronger support for small businesses, agriculture and manufacturing, saying Nigeria needed to create more opportunities for production and employment. He also criticized the use of material inducements in campaigns and urged voters to evaluate candidates on their records and proposals.
The supplied account identifies Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso as the NDC’s presidential ticket and attributes a goal of winning the presidency and a legislative majority to the party. Those candidacy and party status claims require independent verification against official nomination records.
Dickson encouraged supporters to conduct issue based campaigns without violence or personal attacks and urged the authorities to ensure credible elections.
He also called for accurate public health communication about reported Ebola developments, cautioning against speculation and urging preparedness rather than alarm.
