CDS Credits Security Gains to Joint Operations, Says Military Pressure Is Disrupting Terror Networks

Chief of Defence Staff Olufemi Oluyede has attributed recent military gains against terrorist and extremist groups to closer cooperation among the Armed Forces, police, intelligence services, local security groups and other security stakeholders.

Oluyede said sustained joint operations had helped troops neutralize fighters, rescue abducted citizens, receive surrendered combatants and dismantle logistics and intelligence networks supporting violent groups.

The military said operations between August 31 and September 3 recorded arrests, rescues and surrenders across several theaters.

Director of Defence Media Operations Michael Onoja said troops intercepted escapees from terrorist captivity in Borno, arrested suspected logistics suppliers and informants, and received surrendered fighters and family members.

On September 2, the military said 21 women and children surrendered to troops in Mafa, Dikwa Local Government Area, citing fighting between rival terrorist factions.

Another alleged terrorist spy was arrested along the Kauwa-Kukawa Road in Borno on September 3.

The military also reported operations in Kwara and Niger states under Operation Savannah Shield.

Troops reportedly rescued five male kidnap victims from farms along the Kotonkoro-Bangi Road in Mariga Local Government Area of Niger State.

A suspected terrorist fighter with a gunshot wound was also arrested in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, according to the military.

These battlefield and intelligence claims are based on official military reporting and have not been independently verified from the supplied material.

Oluyede said the security gains reflected improved tri-service coordination and stronger collaboration with other agencies.

The military appealed to citizens, traditional rulers and community leaders to continue providing credible information that could support operations.

It also pledged to sustain its current operational tempo until security and stability improved across affected areas.
