The United States Mission in Nigeria has appointed Brandon Hudspeth as Consul General in Lagos, returning him to a country where he previously served between 2020 and 2022.
Hudspeth begins a three year tenure as the senior United States government representative covering 17 states in southern Nigeria.
He succeeds Rick Swart, who retired from the diplomatic service in July.
Hudspeth said he looked forward to renewing relationships and building new partnerships across trade, investment, technology and the creative economy.
He said the relationship between Nigeria and the United States was strengthened by the entrepreneurial energy and innovation shared by citizens of both countries.
The new Consul General has about two decades of diplomatic experience.
His previous assignments include senior roles in Namibia, the Philippines, Mali, Cuba and Afghanistan.
He has also served in the United States Department of State in Washington.
Hudspeth’s professional background includes work in law enforcement cooperation, counter narcotics, maritime security, political affairs and economic diplomacy.
He studied political science and economics at Morehouse College and later earned graduate degrees from Harvard University and the National Defense University.
The United States Mission said his tenure would focus on expanding economic and institutional cooperation across southern Nigeria.
