The education minister is leading an APC campaign working group seeking support among students, teachers, administrators and professional bodies.
Minister of Education Tunji Alausa has announced a target of mobilizing 10 million votes for President Bola Tinubu’s reelection through an All Progressives Congress campaign structure focused on the education sector.
Alausa made the pledge at the inaugural meeting of the APC Presidential Campaign Committee Education Sector Mobilization Working Group, which he chairs. He urged participants to extend their political outreach beyond campuses and classrooms into local communities.
The minister argued that students, teachers, lecturers, school administrators, governing councils, counsellors and education professionals form a nationwide network capable of influencing electoral participation. He said continuity in the present administration would allow existing reforms more time to deliver results.
The working group has established smaller committees covering universities, polytechnics, colleges of education, technical and vocational institutions, teachers and related professional organizations. Alausa said coordinated engagement across those groups could help the party meet its ambitious numerical target.
Minister of State for Education Suwaiba Ahmad is deputy chair of the group, while Muhammad Idris of the Almajiri and Out of School Commission serves as secretary. Other listed members include presidential aide Sunday Asefon and Teachers Registration Council registrar Ronke Soyombo.
The announcement places senior education officials in prominent campaign roles ahead of the 2027 presidential election. The figure of 10 million is a political mobilization goal stated by the committee, not an independently established projection of votes.
