OSOGBO — Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has ordered an investigation into competing claims over the traditional stool of Koka Ilase in Obokun Local Government Area.
In a statement issued Sunday, 6 September 2026, spokesperson Olawale Rasheed said the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs had been directed to examine the circumstances surrounding the reported appointment of a second monarch in the community — a development that has left two people claiming authority over the same stool.
Adeleke instructed the ministry to review the selection and appointment process, determine whether relevant chieftaincy laws, customs and administrative procedures were followed, and produce a report clarifying the stool’s status and the legality of each claim. He appealed to affected parties and Koka Ilase residents to remain peaceful while the investigation proceeds.
The government statement did not name the two claimants or detail their appointment documents, and no conclusion has been reached on which, if either, completed a valid selection process. The ministry’s inquiry is expected to examine the role of the kingmakers, the local government, the recognized ruling house, and any government authority involved in the disputed appointments. No deadline was announced for the report.
The directive came as Adeleke began a vacation in Europe. Rasheed said the governor departed through Lagos and would visit the United Kingdom and other destinations during the trip, which will also include medical checks. The statement gave no expected return date and made no mention of a temporary transfer of official responsibilities.
The chieftaincy investigation is expected to proceed independently of the governor’s travel, in line with Osun State law and the recognized customs of Koka Ilase.
