ADC Campaign Council Condemns Police Disruption of Anti-Tinubu Rally in Kano

The African Democratic Congress Presidential Campaign Council (ADC-PCC) has condemned the disruption of a “Tinubu Must Go” rally in Kano by the state police command, describing the action as unconstitutional and a threat to democratic freedoms.

In a statement issued by its Director of Media and Publicity, Kola Ologbondiyan, the campaign council accused the police of violating citizens’ constitutional rights to peaceful assembly and freedom of expression.

The rally, reportedly organised by concerned youths and led by Barrister Abba Hikima, was scheduled to hold at The Avenue Event Center in Kano.

According to the ADC-PCC, police operatives barricaded the venue and allegedly intimidated participants in an attempt to prevent the gathering from taking place.

The council also condemned the reported arrest of the event centre owner for making the facility available for the rally, describing the action as evidence of growing intolerance of dissent.

“This is not democracy. This is tyranny. For how long will the APC continue to use the police to suppress dissenting voices?” Ologbondiyan queried.

He maintained that economic hardship and public frustration could not be suppressed through restrictions on peaceful gatherings, insisting that Nigerians have the constitutional right to express their views on governance issues.

The ADC-PCC called on security agencies to respect democratic principles and uphold citizens’ rights guaranteed under the Constitution.
