The Ekiti State Police Command has disputed social media reports that African Action Congress presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore was abducted in Ado-Ekiti, saying its preliminary account points instead to a confrontation at a restaurant in the Dalimore area.
Police spokesperson SP Sunday Abutu said officers responded to a distress call, intervened at the location and took Sowore to safety. The command said he sustained a minor injury and received medical attention at the Police Hospital in Ado-Ekiti.
Commissioner of Police Falade Adegoroye Michael has ordered an investigation to establish the sequence of events, identify those involved and determine whether any offences were committed. The command urged the public not to circulate unverified accounts while inquiries continue.
The police description remains an official account of the incident rather than an independently established finding. A response from Sowore or his representatives was not included in the material supplied for this report.
