The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested 15 suspects, including 14 Chinese nationals and one Nigerian, during a raid on four illegal lithium processing plants in the Ogere area of Ogun State.
The operation was carried out by operatives of the EFCC’s Lagos Zonal Directorate 2 on Friday, October 23, following intelligence reports and sustained surveillance on the facilities.
Items recovered during the operation included bags of lithium rocks, 18 mobile phones, four laptops, two decoders, a television remote control, and a trailer truck.
The anti-graft agency said investigations are ongoing and confirmed that the suspects will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of its probe.
The crackdown comes amid growing concerns over the illegal mining and processing of solid minerals across the country.
