Nigerian music superstar Wizkid has reportedly become the first African artist to surpass 12 billion streams on Spotify across all credits, further cementing his position as one of Africa’s most successful global music exports.
The milestone includes streams generated from songs where the Grammy Award-winning singer appears as either a lead artist or a featured act.
Wizkid, popularly known as Starboy, has enjoyed widespread international acclaim through hit projects such as Made in Lagos, chart-topping singles including Ojuelegba and Essence featuring Tems, as well as several high-profile collaborations with international stars.
His contribution to Drake’s global hit One Dance also significantly expanded his international streaming footprint.
Industry observers say the achievement underscores the growing influence of Afrobeats and African music on global streaming platforms, while adding another landmark accomplishment to Wizkid’s illustrious career.
