Atiku Demands Investigation Into Alleged Attack on Edo Comedian

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has called for an urgent police investigation into an alleged assault on Benin City comedian Osagie Daniel Idedia, popularly known as Porkupyne.

In a statement posted on X, the African Democratic Congress presidential candidate claimed Idedia had been targeted because of his political support and criticism of governance in Edo State. The alleged motive has not been independently established.

Atiku accused President Bola Tinubu, Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo and the All Progressives Congress of fostering an atmosphere in which opposition supporters could face intimidation. These were political allegations, not findings of an investigation.

He urged police to identify those responsible and establish whether anyone directed or financed the alleged assault. Atiku also asked Amnesty International and foreign missions to monitor reports of politically motivated violence ahead of the election.

The supplied account did not include a police statement, medical documentation or responses from the governor and the APC. Establishing the circumstances of the reported attack remains essential before responsibility or motive can be determined.
