APC Replies Amaechi, Questions Former Minister’s Comments on Personal Finances

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has launched a scathing attack on former Minister of Transportation and African Democratic Congress (ADC) vice-presidential candidate, Rotimi Amaechi, following his recent remarks about his personal financial situation and the circumstances surrounding his mother’s death.

In a statement signed by the APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the ruling party expressed condolences over the death of Amaechi’s mother, Dame Ezinne Mary Oduah Amaechi, while criticizing the former Rivers State governor over comments the party described as self-indicting.

The APC said it prayed for the peaceful repose of the late matriarch and wished Amaechi good health, but questioned how a former two-term Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, two-term Governor of Rivers State, former Minister of Transportation, and past presidential aspirant could claim to be facing financial difficulties after leaving public office.

According to the party, Amaechi had recently stated that he had become financially challenged and was being supported by his wife. The APC also referenced remarks in which the former minister allegedly suggested that his inability to afford medication contributed to his mother’s death.

The party argued that Amaechi occupied some of the highest public offices in the country for nearly four decades and therefore should not be unable to sustain himself outside government.

In the statement, the APC accused the former minister of being overly dependent on public office and questioned his suitability for the office of vice president, asserting that public service should not be viewed as a means of personal sustenance.

The ruling party further claimed that Amaechi’s recent comments had raised concerns about his readiness for higher office, arguing that his own statements had become a reflection of what it described as his unfitness for national leadership.

Amaechi, a prominent opposition figure and former presidential aspirant, is currently the vice-presidential candidate of the ADC ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The APC’s remarks add another layer to the growing exchange of political attacks between the ruling party and opposition figures as political realignments and campaigns ahead of the 2027 elections continue to gather momentum.
