Big Heart Radio 92.1 FM has officially begun operations in Asaba, with government officials, traditional leaders, media executives and broadcasting regulators describing the new station as an important addition to Delta State’s media landscape.
The station was founded by legal practitioner Anthony Idigbe and is designed to combine conventional radio broadcasting with digital and social media platforms.
Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori was represented at the ceremony by Commissioner for Special Duties Ifeanyi Michael Osuoza.
The governor commended the investment and said radio remained a powerful platform for public information, education and citizen participation.
He urged the management and journalists of the station to uphold responsible and objective journalism.
THISDAY and ARISE Media Group Chairman Nduka Obaigbena, who chaired the ceremony, said radio continued to play a central role in grassroots communication.
He described investment in communication as an investment in society.
Asagba of Asaba Epiphany Azinge praised Idigbe for bringing a major media investment to the city and said the project could help residents tell their own stories.
Delta State House of Assembly Speaker Emomotimi Guwor also welcomed the station and urged its management to maintain high professional standards.
Idigbe said Big Heart Radio was created to educate, entertain and inform while providing a platform for communities to exchange ideas and participate in development.
National Broadcasting Commission Director General Charles Ebuebu said modern radio had evolved beyond traditional transmitters because audiences increasingly consumed content through mobile devices and digital platforms.
He urged the station to preserve culture, promote enterprise and focus on measurable impact in the lives of listeners.
The formal opening concluded with the station’s first live broadcast, marking the start of regular operations in Asaba.
