Russia on Tuesday said its air defence systems intercepted and destroyed 27 Ukrainian drones overnight shortly after the expiration of a three-day ceasefire in the ongoing conflict between the two countries.
In a statement, the Russian Defence Ministry said the drones were shot down between midnight and 7:00 a.m. Moscow time across the Belgorod, Voronezh, and Rostov regions.
According to the ministry, “air defence duty assets intercepted and destroyed 27 Ukrainian fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles” during the overnight operation.
The latest development comes as the temporary truce brokered during Russia’s World War II Victory Day commemorations came to an end, with both Russia and Ukraine previously accusing each other of violating the ceasefire.
No immediate reports of casualties or major damage were released following the drone interceptions.
The war between Russia and Ukraine, which has lasted more than four years, continues to witness frequent drone and missile attacks targeting border regions and strategic infrastructure on both sides.
