Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has intensified his political disagreement with former Peoples Democratic Party Deputy National Chairman Bode George, questioning his electoral influence within the party.
Wike said he had no regret over opposing George’s ambition to become PDP National Chairman, arguing that the position was due to the South South at the time.
The minister accused George of remaining resentful over the outcome and said the disagreement had continued to shape his political position.
Wike also linked the tension to internal politics within the Lagos State chapter of the PDP.
He recalled visiting George at his Abuja residence after a party convention in an attempt to resolve their differences.
According to Wike, political leadership should be judged by the ability to mobilize supporters and deliver electoral victories rather than by seniority, titles or status as a founding member.
The FCT minister questioned George’s electoral contribution to the PDP in Lagos State since Nigeria returned to democratic rule in 1999.
He cited results from polling units previously associated with George to argue that the former party leader had struggled to deliver votes for the PDP.
Wike pointed to the 2019 presidential election, when the All Progressives Congress defeated the PDP at George’s former polling unit.
He maintained that political relevance should ultimately be measured by electoral results.
The exchange represents another escalation in the longstanding disagreement between the two senior politicians over leadership and the future direction of the PDP.
