Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma has distanced himself from comments criticising music star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, over his appeal for a peaceful Osun governorship election.
Uzodimma said remarks attributed to Ambrose Nwogwugwu, who reportedly described Davido’s intervention as emotional blackmail, were neither authorised nor endorsed by him.
The governor said Nwogwugwu spoke in a personal capacity and did not represent him or the All Progressives Congress Osun Governorship Campaign Council, which Uzodimma chairs.
Davido had urged the governor, as Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum and head of the APC campaign council in Osun, to use his influence to ensure a peaceful poll.
Uzodimma said the singer remained “his son” and stressed that he would be in Osun only as a party leader campaigning for APC candidate Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji and monitoring the electoral process.
“I am not an Osun voter,” he said, adding that he had no role as an electorate in the state.
The governor maintained that the APC would campaign through legitimate democratic means and continue to advocate a peaceful, credible, free and fair election.
He urged Davido and the public to disregard the earlier remarks, saying they did not reflect his position or that of the campaign council.
