Umahi Urges Support for Tinubu’s Re-election, Points to Infrastructure Projects

Works Minister David Umahi has called on Nigerians to support President Bola Tinubu’s bid for a second term, arguing that political continuity would help sustain the administration’s infrastructure programme and economic reforms.

Umahi made the appeal at a town hall meeting in Kano ahead of the commissioning of projects on the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano Expressway.

He said the removal of fuel subsidy and other policy changes had been difficult but necessary, and expressed confidence that the economy was moving towards recovery.

The minister also urged Kano residents to support Governor Abba Yusuf’s re-election, praising his leadership, environmental sanitation efforts and engagement with political stakeholders.

Umahi said infrastructure projects under the Federal Ministry of Works were intended to improve connectivity, trade and economic activity across the country.

He also argued that engineers and other technically trained professionals should play a larger role in leadership because of their problem-solving skills and project management experience.

Yusuf, in response, praised the federal government’s infrastructure interventions and said the Zaria-Kano road project would support transportation and economic growth in Kano and the wider North-West.

The comments were made in a political context ahead of the 2027 elections and should be understood as advocacy by officials supporting continuity in office.
