The Igbo Agenda Dialogue has endorsed Nigeria Democratic Congress presidential candidate Peter Obi and his running mate Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso for the 2027 presidential election, dismissing recent endorsements of President Bola Tinubu by Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.
National Chairman Chekwas Okorie announced the group’s position in Abuja, saying the organization would focus on voter mobilization rather than prolonged public exchanges with political officeholders who backed rival candidates.
Okorie argued that endorsements by governors and ministers did not automatically translate into electoral support and said voters should be free to make independent choices.
He also rejected ethnic arguments against Igbo presidential candidates, citing historical examples of political cooperation across regional and ethnic lines.
The group said its endorsement followed an assessment of the leading presidential contenders based on public record, leadership capacity and management of public resources.
Okorie said the organization would mobilize Igbo voters across Nigeria through community associations, market groups, youth organizations, and digital networks.
He maintained that the IAD was not a conventional political party structure but a platform intended to articulate Igbo political interests while encouraging peaceful, issue-based participation.
The organization’s endorsement remains a political position and does not indicate broader electoral support beyond its own network.
