Umahi Urges Benue, Ebonyi, Enugu and Cross River Communities to Back Tinubu in 2027

Works Minister David Umahi has urged communities in Benue, Ebonyi, Enugu and Cross River states to support President Bola Tinubu’s reelection bid, linking the appeal to ongoing federal infrastructure projects in the region.

Umahi made the remarks during an inspection of the Cross River-Ebonyi-Benue-Abuja Trans-Saharan Highway.

He argued that completing the project would require continuity in federal infrastructure policy beyond 2027.

The minister said Tinubu had approved mobilization and funding for major roads despite fiscal constraints and the large number of projects already under construction.

Umahi described some rural communities along the corridor as historically underserved by federal roads.

He said improved road access would help residents move agricultural produce, vehicles and machinery more efficiently.

The minister also cited interventions in other parts of the country, including the Ibadan-Ijebu Ode corridor and the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, as evidence of what he described as a national infrastructure push.

Umahi said government could not fund every project simultaneously and would continue prioritizing work according to available resources.

He projected that some major projects would be fully completed by 2031 if Tinubu secured a second term.

The minister’s appeal explicitly connected infrastructure delivery with electoral support.

That is a political argument by a senior member of the administration rather than an independent assessment of voting intentions in the affected states.

Communities along the Trans-Saharan Highway are expected to judge the project by the pace of construction, quality of work and whether improved connectivity produces measurable economic benefits.

Umahi said residents should view federal road intervention as a reason to sustain the current administration through the 2027 election.
