Two Kwara Assembly Members Quit APC, Secure PDP Tickets for 2027

Two serving members of the Kwara State House of Assembly have resigned from the All Progressives Congress and moved to the Peoples Democratic Party ahead of the 2027 elections.

The lawmakers are Saba Yisa Gideon, representing Edu State Constituency, and Olushola Odetundun of Irepodun State Constituency.

Both have reportedly secured PDP tickets to seek reelection.

Their defections form part of a wider political realignment in Kwara State.

Kwara Central Senator Saliu Mustapha recently left the APC for the PDP and secured the opposition party’s senatorial ticket.

Another politician from Kwara North, Kolo Jiya, also left the ruling party and obtained a PDP senatorial ticket.

Gideon, who chairs the Assembly Committee on Livestock, said his decision followed consultations with constituents and political stakeholders.

In his resignation letter, he cited concerns about internal democracy, fairness and inclusiveness within the APC.

Those claims represent his stated reasons and are not independent findings about the party’s internal processes.

Odetundun also said he had consulted supporters and constituents before deciding to change parties.

He described the move as a political realignment intended to better serve his constituency.

Both lawmakers said their commitment to representation and public service would continue despite the change in party platform.

A source within the PDP said the party leadership had communicated its decision to offer the lawmakers tickets for their constituencies.

The defections could alter the political balance in the Kwara Assembly and add momentum to the PDP’s effort to rebuild its statewide structure.

The APC had not been quoted in the source material responding to the lawmakers’ resignations.

The movement of incumbent officeholders between the two major parties is expected to intensify as candidates position themselves for the 2027 elections.
