Troops of the 2 Division, Nigerian Army, have rescued a kidnap victim and recovered an AK-47 rifle during an operation in Kogi State.
The operation, according to the Army, further disrupted the activities of suspected kidnappers operating in the area.
The troops, operating from Patrol Base Obajana, encountered a 28-year-old man who had escaped from his abductors.
During preliminary debriefing, the victim reportedly disclosed that he was abducted from the Abaji area of the Federal Capital Territory about five weeks ago and had been held captive at a location within the area.
Acting on information provided by the victim, the troops moved to the identified location.
The suspected kidnappers reportedly fled into the surrounding terrain after sighting the advancing soldiers, abandoning their position.
During a search of the area, the troops recovered an AK-47 rifle believed to have been abandoned by the fleeing suspects.
The rescued victim was subsequently evacuated to a military medical facility, where he is receiving treatment.
The Nigerian Army said troops were exploiting the success of the operation to track the fleeing suspects and dismantle their network.
It added that the operation demonstrated the Army’s commitment to tackling kidnapping and other violent crimes through intelligence-driven and proactive operations.
The Army further assured residents of its continued efforts, in collaboration with other security agencies and stakeholders, to protect lives and property, disrupt criminal networks and restore lasting peace and security in affected communities.
