President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has said Abuja is witnessing a resurgence in social and economic activities as sustained investments in infrastructure and security are making the nation’s capital safer and more livable.
The President stated this on Friday during the inauguration of the Collector Road CN2 linking Arterial Road N16 to Arterial Road N20, including ILS 5, in the Katampe District of the Federal Capital Territory.
Represented at the event by Vice President Kashim Shettima, Tinubu attributed the improving security situation in the city to deliberate policies aimed at enhancing mobility, expanding critical infrastructure and restoring public confidence.
According to him, social life in Abuja is gradually returning as criminal enclaves that once posed security threats are being dismantled.
“My fellow residents of Abuja, we did not stop at the road. We installed solar streetlights. Today, Katampe is safer at night. Abuja’s real life is coming back. Criminal hideouts are disappearing. That is what good governance delivers: security, mobility, and dignity,” the President said.
Tinubu commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for what he described as outstanding performance and commitment to the mandate of transforming Abuja into a befitting capital city.
He said the newly commissioned road project would significantly ease transportation challenges faced by residents while improving connectivity between the Katampe and Mabushi districts and other major road networks within the city.
The President stressed that infrastructure development remains a critical component of his administration’s agenda, noting that roads, street lighting and other public amenities are essential to economic growth, urban renewal and improved security.
He added that beyond facilitating movement, the installation of solar powered streetlights along the corridor would enhance nighttime visibility, discourage criminal activities and improve the overall quality of life for residents.
Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s determination to continue investing in projects that directly impact the wellbeing of Nigerians, expressing confidence that ongoing interventions in the Federal Capital Territory would further strengthen Abuja’s status as a modern and secure capital for all citizens.
