President Bola Tinubu has begun a three week working vacation in Europe, with London as his first destination, as the Presidency says he will continue receiving official briefings while on leave.
Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga said the trip formed part of the President’s annual leave.
Tinubu is expected to return to Nigeria after the vacation as political activity intensifies ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Presidential aide Sunday Dare said the break would give the President an opportunity to rest after several months of intensive engagement with security, economic and other state matters.
Dare said Tinubu had spent roughly six to seven months handling major government decisions and described the leave as an opportunity to refuel before the campaign season became more demanding.
He stressed that the President would not be completely disengaged from official responsibilities.
According to the Presidency, Tinubu will continue receiving briefings from ministers, service chiefs and other senior officials responsible for major national decisions.
The administration said the working nature of the leave meant important government matters could still be escalated to the President when necessary.
Vice President Kashim Shettima had earlier taken a two week leave and has since resumed work.
Tinubu’s vacation comes at the start of a politically active period in which parties and candidates are increasing mobilization ahead of the January 2027 presidential election.
The Presidency said campaign activity would not suspend governance and that Tinubu would resume full duties in Nigeria after the leave.
