President Bola Tinubu has commended security agencies for the successful rescue of 308 abducted Nigerians in coordinated operations carried out across Kwara and Niger states.
The rescued victims include 163 persons abducted from Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State and 145 others kidnapped in Niger State.
According to the Presidency, the victims were freed from the Kainji Lake National Park Forest in New Bussa Local Government Area of Niger State during a coordinated intelligence-led operation involving the National Counter-Terrorism Centre (NCTC), the Armed Forces of Nigeria, the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Police Force.
The operation is being described as the largest single-day rescue mission carried out by the joint security team.
In a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu praised the professionalism, courage and effective collaboration displayed by the security agencies.
“The successful execution of this intelligence-led operation demonstrates the growing efficiency and collaboration among our security services. I commend our gallant men and women in uniform for their bravery and unwavering commitment to safeguarding Nigerian lives,” the President said.
The Presidency disclosed that the rescued victims are currently receiving first aid and medical attention at the Wawa Cantonment Medical Facility. After medical evaluations, they will be handed over to their respective state governments for rehabilitation and reunification with their families.
While welcoming the successful rescue, Tinubu stressed the need to strengthen the country’s security architecture to prevent future abductions.
He directed security agencies and other relevant stakeholders to enhance early warning systems, improve community-based intelligence gathering and strengthen rapid response mechanisms to tackle emerging security threats.
The President also reassured Nigerians of his administration’s commitment to eliminating insecurity, protecting vulnerable communities and restoring lasting peace across the country.
