SON Says 17,866 Nigerian Products Certified Under MANCAP

The Standards Organization of Nigeria says 17,866 locally manufactured products from 8,634 companies have been certified or revalidated under the Mandatory Conformity Assessment Programme since the scheme was introduced.

Director-General Ifeanyi Chukwunonso Okeke disclosed the figures in Lagos at the 2026 National MANCAP Quality Award and the programme’s 20th anniversary celebration.

He said the scheme began in 2006 with 1,930 certified products from 458 companies and had expanded significantly over the past two decades.

MANCAP is designed to ensure that locally manufactured products meet relevant Nigerian Industrial Standards, promote fair competition and protect consumers from substandard or unsafe products.

Okeke said the new annual quality award recognized companies that had maintained certification consistently for 10, 15 and 20 years.

He described quality assurance as central to strengthening confidence in Made-in-Nigeria goods and improving the competitiveness of local manufacturers in domestic and export markets.

Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, Chris Osa Isokpunwu, said sustained compliance required discipline, investment and a long-term commitment to product quality.

He urged manufacturers to treat standards not simply as regulatory obligations but as tools for improving efficiency, reducing risk and building stronger businesses.
