Russia Says It Shot Down 419 Ukrainian Drones in Overnight Attack

Russia’s Ministry of Defence said on Tuesday that its air defence systems intercepted and destroyed 419 Ukrainian drones during overnight attacks across the country.

In a statement posted on the state-run Max platform, the ministry said air defence units “intercepted and destroyed 419 Ukrainian fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles” launched by Ukraine.

The ministry did not report any casualties or injuries resulting from the attacks.

Earlier, Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin said Russian air defence forces had shot down 50 Ukrainian drones that were heading toward the Russian capital overnight.

The latest barrage comes as Ukraine intensifies its long-range drone campaign against targets inside Russia, particularly energy infrastructure, in an effort to disrupt a key source of revenue funding Moscow’s military operations.

The overnight attacks follow another large-scale drone assault last week, when Russian authorities said they intercepted 660 Ukrainian drones between Thursday and Friday—one of the highest daily totals reported since the conflict began.

Last week, a Ukrainian drone strike also triggered a fire at an oil refinery in southeastern Moscow, highlighting Kyiv’s growing ability to target strategic infrastructure deep inside Russian territory.

Russia and Ukraine have increasingly relied on long-range drone attacks as the war, now in its fifth year, continues with no immediate breakthrough in diplomatic efforts to end the conflict.
