A serving police inspector has been shot and killed after leading two accomplices in an armed robbery at a petrol filling station in Kontagora, Niger State, in a development that has drawn sharp attention to criminal conduct within the ranks of the security forces.
Inspector Jido Ahmed led the robbery operation at a filling station behind the BCG area of Kontagora, with eyewitnesses reporting that the gang arrived on motorcycles and shot a petrol attendant in the chest before making off with the day’s sales from the station’s vault.
An anti-crime patrol team responding to an alert arrived at the scene in time to intercept the robbers. During the confrontation, Inspector Ahmed was shot in the leg while his accomplices escaped with the stolen money. The wounded officer was transferred to a police clinic in Minna where he subsequently died from his injuries.
