Power Distributors Collected N203.61 Billion in April as Recovery Improves

Nigeria’s electricity distribution companies collected N203.61 billion from customers in April 2026, a 3.81 per cent rise over the previous month, even as overall billing efficiency weakened slightly despite more energy received and billed.

The latest Commercial Performance Factsheet from the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission showed the 11 distributors received electricity worth N302.96 billion in April and billed customers N252.43 billion. Billing efficiency, however, slipped by 0.57 percentage points to 83.32 per cent, meaning nearly 17 per cent of supplied energy went unbilled.

Collection efficiency improved to 80.66 per cent, up 1.07 percentage points, while revenue recovery efficiency rose to 82.11 per cent, with an average allowed tariff of N124.39 per kilowatt hour against actual collection of N102.13.

Enugu recorded the highest billing efficiency at 92.77 per cent, followed by Eko, Ibadan, Abuja and Kano, while Kaduna was weakest at 62.81 per cent. On collection, Benin led at 95.52 per cent, with Kano lowest at 49.89 per cent.

Eko was the only distributor to recover more than its approved tariff, posting revenue recovery efficiency of 102.09 per cent, while Kaduna recorded the weakest at 43.15 per cent. Overall, the figures pointed to stronger collections even as challenges in billing all supplied energy persisted.
