Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu has highlighted the dangers confronting police officers, military personnel and other security operatives, saying their work involves difficult conditions and significant personal sacrifices.
Disu spoke in Abuja during a courtesy visit by a delegation of the Lagos State University Alumni Association led by its national president, Norrison Quakers. He said cooperation among security agencies remained essential to addressing crime and insecurity, particularly in areas facing persistent violence.
The police chief acknowledged the risks borne by officers in the field and said members of the public could assist law enforcement through responsible engagement and credible information. He also thanked fellow university alumni who had provided feedback on police conduct and supported his work.
Disu observed that security challenges varied across the country and described the situation in parts of northern Nigeria as especially demanding.
Quakers commended the inspector-general’s stated priorities, including personnel welfare, intelligence-led policing, inter-agency cooperation and support for discussions on state policing. He said the association’s visit was intended to recognize Disu’s public service and encourage continued reform.
The alumni delegation also cited his previous assignments in intelligence and senior police leadership roles. Its assessment of his performance represented the association’s view rather than an independent evaluation of security outcomes.
