Dr Chamberlain Peterside has been installed as the fifth chairman of the Chartered Institute of Directors Nigeria’s Port Harcourt branch executive committee, using his investiture to pledge a tenure built around what he called VMM, visibility, membership and mentorship.
Speaking at the ceremony in Port Harcourt, Peterside said he is proud to accept the leadership role and committed to promoting the values and principles the institute holds dear across the region and the country, with his team working to rally existing members and attract new ones, particularly from senior civil and public service ranks interested in embracing good governance principles in the public sector. He said the branch aims to raise the institute’s visibility in the region, expand its footprint, and mentor and groom the next generation of corporate leaders from among younger professionals, alongside a longer term ambition to build a dedicated CIoD House in Port Harcourt that would serve as an administrative hub, a repository of corporate knowledge and a venue capable of hosting corporate events and welcoming members and the public into modern facilities.
CIoD Nigeria President and Governing Council Chairman Adetunji Oyebanji called the investiture more than a simple handover, describing it as a renewed commitment to strengthening the branch, advancing sound corporate governance and promoting ethical, effective leadership across Rivers State and Nigeria, and noted that Port Harcourt’s position as one of the country’s foremost commercial, industrial and energy hubs gives the branch real potential to influence business leadership and expand the institute’s reach across the South South. Guest speaker George Etomi, delivering a keynote titled Visionary Leadership, Sound Corporate Governance and Ethical Stewardship, Imperative for Sustainable Economic Growth in a Dynamic Environment, argued that sustainable economic growth cannot be achieved through economic policy alone, but requires visionary leadership capable of anticipating change, sound governance that promotes accountability and oversight, and ethical stewardship that builds trust and ensures resources are managed responsibly.
