PDP Accuses Wike of Intimidation Ahead of Jonathan Ratification Convention

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has alleged that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, threatened to shut down the premises of A Class Event Centre in Abuja over plans to host the party’s presidential candidate ratification convention.

In a statement issued by the party’s Interim National Working Committee, the PDP claimed the management of A Class Event Centre informed the party of alleged threats from the FCT minister if the venue was used for the event.

The party said it had fully paid for the venue and fulfilled all necessary requirements, including notifying relevant security agencies about the gathering.

According to the statement signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, the PDP has directed its lawyers to remind the venue operators of the contractual agreement already reached.

The opposition party insisted that the special convention to ratify the presidential candidature of former President Goodluck Jonathan would proceed as scheduled on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at A Class Event Centre in Wuse 2, Abuja.

The PDP described any attempt to suppress opposition political activities as undemocratic and contrary to the rule of law.

“We are certain that Nigeria is a country governed by law, and any attempt to use force to suppress political dissent and opposition is an aberration which must be resisted,” the statement read.

The party also argued that no provision of Nigerian law grants the FCT minister authority to determine which events can be held at private venues in the capital city.

The PDP further invited party leaders, members of the National Executive Committee, and stakeholders from across the country to attend the convention as planned.

Neither the office of the FCT minister nor A Class Event Centre had publicly responded to the allegations at the time of filing this report.
