Otedola Bridge Tanker Fire Extinguished, Traffic Restored in Lagos

Traffic has been restored along the Otedola Bridge corridor in Lagos following the successful extinguishing of a fire involving a fallen tanker carrying 33,000 litres of diesel.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) confirmed that two adult men sustained second- and third-degree burns in the incident and were evacuated for further medical treatment.

In a statement, LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, said the fire was brought under control through the coordinated efforts of emergency and traffic management agencies.

The agencies involved included the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, LASEMA Response Team, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and Lagos State Ambulance Service.

According to the agency, the two victims received immediate medical attention at the scene before being transported to receive further treatment.

LASEMA disclosed that dampening-down operations were 80 per cent complete at the time of filing the report. It added that plans were in place to recover and remove the fallen tanker after the operation had been concluded.

Despite the restoration of traffic, motorists were advised to exercise caution, observe safe speed limits and cooperate with traffic officials deployed along the affected corridor.

The Lagos State Government reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property through prompt emergency response and effective collaboration among relevant agencies.
