Osun Governorship Result Faces No Petition as Filing Window Closes

The 21-day window for challenging the outcome of the Osun State governorship election has closed without a single petition filed at the election tribunal.

Two separate checks at the tribunal registry in Osogbo confirmed that no party or candidate submitted a petition before Saturday’s deadline.

Governor Ademola Adeleke, who ran on the Accord Party platform, was declared winner of the August 15 poll by INEC, taking 511,067 votes to 444,815 for his closest rival, Bola Oyebamiji of the APC. Fifteen parties contested the election.

The APC had said its lawyers would review the result before advising on next steps; Oyebamiji has since congratulated Adeleke on his win.

With the filing period now closed, the tribunal has no case before it on the declared result, a notable departure in a state where past governorship contests have routinely dragged through the courts.
